This song has a straight forward meaning.
The man who is singing this song is attracted to the woman he's singing to in a romantic way. He views this woman as his potential spouse. I will specifically describe in the following paragraphs.
He states, "When she walks, she swings her arms instead of her hips." meaning the woman he is interested in is like a man with a plan, due to the fact men generally walk with their arms which indicate power and determination.
Another excerpt states, " when she talks, she talks with her mouth instead of her lips" basically translating when the woman he is interested in speaks, she has a purpose which is to express ideas, goals, and not to just flap her "lips" as typical women do when they gossip.
The artist describes, "And I waited for her for so long. I've waited for her for so long" to express this woman he's singing about is who he's been imagining to be in a relationship with. He repeats it twice to emphasize how long he's been waiting for her for song long.
Next he sings, "I wonder if I can hang on. I wonder if I can hang on" to elaborate he wants to be holding on to this woman because of his feelings toward her. They are not in a relationship and he wants to be in one. Again, he repeats it twice to reiterate the importance of the previous line to be remembered.
Then he explains that she says, "Let me go she said let me go. Let me go so I can want you more. Let me go she said let me go. Let me go so I can want you more." To specifically imply the woman is equivalently wanting the man singing yet she needs her space also known as her alone time to allow herself to maintain her identity and so she can "prolong the magic" she feels with in herself and the singer.
Furthermore, Cake continues, "when she wants, she wants the sun instead of the moon" to express her need to shoot for the star instead of being comfortable with something within her reach, the moon.
Additionally, the man elaborates, "when she sees she sees the stars inside of her room" to colorfully describe this woman acknowledges her dreams which are the stars and knows she is one as well.
Abruptly there is a man and woman start speaking French which I can't translate. Yet from the context of the song and how they are both communicating, I'm assuming this man and woman are speaking the same language and are on the same page in regards of understanding one another.
Ultimately, Cake goes back to the title of the song "Let Me Go" and repeats it multiple times. Generally which would normally seem that the person described is not interested and wants to be left alone. Yet if you listen to the words in the song, the title means the opposite because the woman he is singing about wants him and wants to keep the relationship fresh by allowing space in between them.
So transparently, the summarization of the whole song is these two people want to be with each other. The man wants to stay with her and the woman does as well. The difference between the two is that the man wants to have the woman close right now and the woman is not ready and needs her space. She doesn't want him to literally let her go, just slow it down.
I hoped this helped any of the readers in the World Wide Web cause elaborating this song definitely helped me with a special someone.
