For starters, Tears for Fears is a British band. In the 80's Brits didn't run around saying "Dude" like some bleached blonde California surfer.

The song is simply about the man's confusion over being "head over heels" in love with a woman who want's nothing more than a physical relationship with no emotional ties.

But he's being honest and telling her what he wants, laying it all on the line and leaving it up to luck (thus the 4 leaf clover reference towards the end)
