I think this song is special. I don't think it has to do with one night anythings. I think it has to do with a long built relationship or friendship, and then the departure. Friendship. It doesn't mean that they ended off on a bad note, and instead want to spend their last moments together. They are forced to depart, whether it's leaving a school, moving away, anything that comes in between to separate us. I can relate this song to graduation and leaving my friends. Anyone can, but I do not think it's about one night stands or anything of the sort. It's a song that shows meaning of the last night. It shows the contrast between the night and the day, and how different things can be within just that short amount of time. The night that daylight will apply to you is when you will finally realize what this song is about, and I have realized what it was about sing my "Daylight" night happened recently.

"Here I am waiting, i'll have to leave soon
Why am i, holding on?
We knew this day would come, we knew it all along
How did it, come so fast?"
It was a set day, that would have come sometime sooner or later but he didn't face it. They know they would have to depart, as everyone does one day, and he's wondering why the day is now today- the day they new they'd have to face. He's wondering why he spent all his time holding on and trying to preserve their time if they knew it'd all be over.

"This is our last night but it's late
And I'm trying not to sleep
Cause I know, when I wake, I will have to slip away "
This is implying that it's their last night together and it's their time for them to be together and make the last moments meaningful. The next day they will slip away, they will not be together anymore and will drift off. Slipping away isn't an immediate departure, but if there is something that will happen that will keep them from being together, and slowly cause them to drift such as leaving your friends and not being in the same school, it is hard to keep in touch with them- you still can, but you will slip away.

"And when the daylight comes I'll have to go
But tonight I'm gonna hold you so close
Cause in the daylight we'll be on our own
But tonight I need to hold you so close "
This is very clear. The daylight is the next day, and he is savoring the tonight.

"Here I am staring at your perfection
In my arms, so beautiful
The sky is getting bright the stars are burning out
Somebody slow it down "
The perfection could be physical, that it is someone of beauty and someone who he loves, or it could be a perfection of their friendship. He is making out everything of their last time together, and their togetherness. He wants the time to stop and he doesn't want the sky to get brighter because the time is nearing.

"This is way too hard, cause I know
When the sun comes up, I will leave
This is my last glance that will soon be memory "
One of my favorite lines of the song... There is always a last time for everything and this is his last glance that he will ever get to look at his time together with that person, and this time that he is now present in will soon turn into a memory he will always cherish. He is creating his memory.

"I never wanted to stop because I don't wanna start all over, start all over
I was afraid of the dark but now it's all that I want, all that I want, all that I want "
Again, I can relate this to the graduating or leaving your friends bit. He never wanted to leave, or graduate, or start a new beginning because then he would to go through the whole process of hello's and goodbye's again. He isn't ready to start his new process because he feels like it's not ready to finish, so he's clinging onto the dark because he's afraid of starting the new scary stage.

This song is totally relatable to anyone.
